Answers to common questions about My Daily Notes.

Using the app

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first download, the app keeps about five months of Gospel readings on your device: 30 days back and 120 days ahead. Your journal, the Rosary and every downloaded reading work with no connection. (For the CPDV and Ang Biblia translations, each reading’s text downloads the first time you open it, and today’s reading is fetched ahead. Once opened, a reading stays on your device.) The app downloads new days by itself when you are online.

Why do I see “Today’s Gospel isn’t downloaded yet”?

The first download needs an internet connection. Connect once, then pull down on the Home screen or tap “Download now”. Progress is shown at the top of the screen.

How do I change the Bible translation?

Open the Profile tab and choose a translation. The app then downloads the readings for it. Your reflections are kept, and each one stays linked to the reading it was written for.

How do I turn on the daily reminder?

Open Profile, switch on “Remind me to reflect”, and choose a time. Your phone asks for permission to send notifications the first time. Tapping the reminder opens today’s reading with the reflection box ready. If you declined permission, turn notifications on for the app in your phone’s settings.

What is the mood check-in for?

It is optional. Tap how you feel on Home, or on any reading. The mood is saved on your device with that day and appears in your Journey, even on days you didn’t write a reflection. In the Journey you can filter by mood (each mood shows how many days you chose it), sort by mood, and read what you wrote when you felt anxious, peaceful and so on. Tap the same mood again to clear it.

Which Rosary mysteries does the app suggest?

Joyful on Monday and Saturday, Sorrowful on Tuesday and Friday, Glorious on Wednesday and Sunday, and Luminous on Thursday. You can choose any set yourself. The app does not adjust for Advent or Lent.

Your data

Where are my reflections stored?

Only on your phone. There are no accounts and no servers that hold your notes. This also means that if you uninstall the app or lose the phone, your reflections cannot be recovered, so export them from time to time.

How do I export my reflections?

Open Profile and tap “Export my reflections”. Your phone’s share sheet opens with your reflections as plain text, so you can send them to yourself, save them to a notes app or print them.

How do I delete everything?

Open Profile and tap “Erase all my data”. This permanently deletes every reflection, mood check-in and downloaded reading, turns off your reminder and withdraws your consent. You will see the welcome screen again. To remove a single reflection, use the delete button on it in the Journey tab.

Is my information shared with anyone?

No. See the privacy policy for the full explanation, including the three public services the app contacts to download readings.

About the readings

Where does the daily Gospel come from?

The app looks up which Gospel is read on each date from Vatican News, then downloads the scripture text in your chosen translation from public Bible services. Only the reference and the translation’s own text are used.

Can I read the Magandang Balita Biblia (MBB) or the NABRE?

Yes, by link. Every reading has a “Read in Magandang Balita Biblia” button (opens the passage on YouVersion) and a “Read in NABRE” button (opens it on Bible Gateway). These translations are protected by copyright, so their text can’t be shown inside this app without the publishers’ permission.

Why aren’t RSV-CE, NRSV-CE or the Jerusalem Bible included?

These translations are protected by copyright and need permission from their publishers. The app only includes translations that are free to use. More may be added if permission is obtained.

The reading on my screen looks different from my missal or lectionary.

Lectionary readings in Mass use their own approved translations, which differ from the translations in the app. The reference (for example, Matthew 9:9-13) is the same, but the wording can vary.

Scripture credits

The app’s scripture text comes from these translations:

The Magandang Balita Biblia is © Philippine Bible Society, and the New American Bible, Revised Edition is © Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Washington, DC. Both are only linked to, not reproduced. Which Gospel is read each day comes from Vatican News. The Rosary prayers use the traditional English wording, which is in the public domain. Illustrations in the app and on this site were drawn for this project.
